Concert: FRELOSA - Fred Frith, Lotte Anker, Samuel Dühsler
1 November 2025
On November 1st, OPOS hosted an extraordinary event: a concert by the trio Frelosa, an exceptional ensemble featuring three leading figures in contemporary improvisation — the legendary Fred Frith on electric guitar, the visionary Lotte Anker on saxophone, and the eclectic Samuel Dühsler on drums.
During this unique evening, the trio performed live their acclaimed album Storytelling, released in 2017 by the label Intuition as part of the renowned European Jazz Legends series. The German magazine Jazz Thing describes the album as a sonic experience rooted in archaic and ritualistic atmospheres, where intuition guides every musical gesture. It’s not so much the narrative that captivates, but the very process of storytelling itself, transformed into a true sonic adventure. A journey where surrendering to the moment generates a vibrant, free, and deeply human tension.
Fred Frith recalls that the musical chemistry with Lotte Anker was immediate from their first encounter. Playing together felt natural and inevitable, as if the music already existed, ready to manifest itself, and their only task was simply to step aside and let it flow. From this mutual trust emerges a sound language that is relaxed, flexible, yet surprisingly simple and direct.
With Samuel Dühsler, however, the connection takes on a different tone: a constant play between stability and surprise. Frith describes the experience with the drummer as a delicate balance between control and chaos, where every musical gesture is imbued with disarming humor and a grace that subverts expectations. Dühsler has the ability to shake the foundations of musical dialogue, provoking sudden shifts in perspective and small creative tremors that keep everyone on edge.
