Concert: RAREFACTION - Crabs & Feathers

28 November 2025

On Friday, November 28, OPOS hosted a special evening dedicated to Crabs & Feathers, the duo formed by guitarist Claudio Niniano and saxophonist Jonathan Norani, who presented Rarefaction live — their debut album, released by the Catalan label Protomaterial.

Following the success of their first single Old Bag, available on all digital platforms, the Milan-based duo returned to the stage with a concert that blends folk, jazz, and electronic music into a unique sonic language, suspended between improvisation and structure, delicacy and tension. The music of Crabs & Feathers thrives on contrasts: raw and refined, intimate and dynamic, capable of turning silence, breath, and space into true compositional elements.

Rarefaction is a radical and poetic work: eleven fully instrumental tracks that explore the boundary between composition and freedom, between melody and timbral experimentation. Composed by Claudio Niniano and arranged together with Jonathan Norani, the album represents a sonic journey that weaves together tradition and experimentation, folk roots and contemporary minimalism.

The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Joan Arnau Pàmies, a Catalan composer and producer known for his attention to detail and avant-garde sensibility. Recorded by sound engineer Filippo Slaviero, Rarefaction is the result of an authentic musical dialogue built on trust, improvisation, and a shared artistic vision.

During the November 28 event, Crabs & Feathers performed the entire album live, guiding the audience through an immersive listening experience where music transforms into an emotional landscape. With Rarefaction, Crabs & Feathers finally reveal their definitive voice: a balance of melody, freedom, and experimentation that establishes them as one of the most original acts in the new contemporary jazz scene.
